Therapy Modalities

Most importantly, my approach is non-judgmental and open-minded. I employ an integrative approach to therapy, which means that I do not prescribe strictly to only one method. Instead, I have advanced training in complimentary modalities, which I synthesize to meet the unique needs of my clients.

I have advanced and specialized training in the modalities below. Every person is different and my approach honors your individuality.

Attachment-Based Therapy

Attachment-Based Therapy is a process-oriented form of psychological counseling. The client-therapist relationship is based on developing or rebuilding trust and centers on expressing emotions. An attachment-based approach to therapy looks at the connection between your early attachment experiences with primary caregivers, usually with parents, and the ability to ultimately form healthy, full-filling relationships as an adult. Attachment-based therapy aims to build or rebuild a trusting, supportive relationship that will help prevent and treat anxiety and relationship distress.

“Our nervous system learns to co-regulate by receiving information directly from our childhood caregivers, and that regulation becomes who we are on a neurological level. If you didn’t grow up with compassionate attachments, your nervous system has a gap where that interactive regulation should be, making it more difficult as you age to trust others or even think of asking for help when you need it.” - Diane Poole Heller, PhD

Adlerian Therapy

Adlerian Therapy is a short-term, goal-oriented, and positive psycho-dynamic therapy based on the theories of Alfred Adler. It emphasizes the individual's strivings for success, connectedness and relationships with others, and contributions to society as being hallmarks of well-being.

“Meanings are not determined by situations, but we determine ourselves by the meanings we give to situations.” - Alfred Adler

Family Systems Therapy

The Family Systems Theory is introduced by Dr. Murray Bowen. It suggests that individuals cannot be understood in isolation from one another, but rather as a part of their family and the systems they belong to.

“The overall goal of counseling is to help family members become ‘system experts’ who know their family system so well that the family can re-adjust itself without the help of someone else.” - Murray Bowen
