About
My name is Katy Manganella. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I am the owner of Austin City Counseling in Austin, TX.
My background. In December 2011, I graduated summa cum laude with a M.A. in Counseling Psychology, with a Specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy. I am an alumni of the CACREP-accredited Psychology and Counseling Program at the University of Texas at Tyler. After graduating, I moved to New York City where I provided counseling services to homeless and previously homeless individuals and families. In 2015, I joined the Ending Community Homelessness Coalition in Austin, TX and was privileged to implement evidence-based programming for ending youth homelessness across multiple non-profit organizations in Austin. In 2018, I teamed up with Austin Family Counseling where I practiced relationship counseling and individual counseling for adults and teens. And in 2020, I opened Austin City Counseling. Throughout my experience, I have found that we all yearn to be loved, to belong, and to be significant.
What it is like to work with me. Counseling with me is non-judgmental. I truly hope you come exactly as you are. I promise to be authentic (i.e. human), empowering, and honest in counseling with you. I draw from advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Self-Compassion, Attachment-Based Therapy, Gottman Method Couples Therapy (Level 1), Adlerian Therapy, and I am a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator. I am also a Certified Yoga Teacher and a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) through the Yoga Alliance. I use an integrative approach to therapy, tailoring my approach to your unique needs and personality.
What I ask from you. I believe you are the expert on yourself and throughout counseling, we will call on your expertise and open opportunities for you to deepen the relationship with yourself. I ask that my clients commit to the work of counseling, knowing that the real change happens between sessions. I ask my clients to lean into vulnerability. I ask my clients to be open to trying new things, dig deep, and trust the process. And, perhaps most importantly, I ask my clients to be compassionate with themselves.

Outside of therapy. I’m a fellow human, wife, new mom, daughter, sister, Aunt, and friend. I’m a long distance runner (I’ve run 4 half marathons), yogi, hiker, and mindfulness junkie. I love Schitts Creek and The Office, Home Slice Pizza, and really good conversation.
